Washington, D.C. - The Rumsfeld Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of its 2017-18 Graduate Fellows.
This year the Foundation awarded 20 Fellowships, totaling over $350,000, to promising scholars across the country with an interest in serving the nation through a career in public service or in policy-relevant fields. Entering its ninth academic year, the Graduate Fellowship Program now includes an impressive network of 114 current and former Fellows, as well as 23 distinguished Program Advisers located at 22 universities nationwide.
Nominated for their demonstrated leadership potential, moral character and academic and civic achievements, the 2017-18 Graduate Fellows represent a diverse collection of backgrounds and experiences. This year’s Fellows will be pursuing studies in fields from international relations and economics to cybersecurity and intelligence, and are comprised of candidates for the following: 7 PhD’s, 10 Master’s, one JD and two Postdoctoral Fellows.
Some of the already impressive roles and accomplishments of the 2017-18 Fellows include: a high-level Arabic speaker and Middle East expert, a founder of a small business, a Legislative Assistant in the Wisconsin State Legislature, Program Assistant at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, a College Republicans President, a recipient of the DIA’s Special Act Award, a teaching assistant at George Washington University, a Graduate Researcher on The Churchill Project at Hillsdale College, a recipient of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s “Tradecraft Enhancement Award,” President of an Alexander Hamilton Society campus chapter, a Research Fellow at the John Hay Initiative, a nominee for the American Political Science Association’s Edwin S. Corwin Award for Best Dissertation in Public Law, Assistant Director of Fellowships at The Claremont Institute, a Fellow in the Texas Governor’s Office, authors of numerous publications and articles, and three U.S. military veterans, among other notable contributions and achievements.
Along with the Fellowship grants awarded, the Foundation is pleased to support these service-oriented young leaders by hosting various events throughout the year for Fellows to engage with the Fellowship network, to include receptions, retreats, speakers, book discussions and an annual fall conference in Washington, D.C.
One recently selected 2017-18 Fellow noted, “There are more worthy projects to fund than there is time and money to do so. As a beneficiary in such a world, I take all the more seriously my commitments to serving the public and to participating enthusiastically in the very fine network that the Rumsfeld Fellowships have brought together.”
