FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 16, 2015

Washington, D.C. - On September 10th-11th, 2015 the Rumsfeld Foundation hosted its third annual Graduate Fellowship Conference. Participants traveled from across the country, from California and Texas to Indiana and New York, to attend the two-day Conference held in Washington, D.C. 48 former and current Graduate Fellows attended, as well as more than half of the program's Advisers. Conference events began with an evening reception on the rooftop of Old Ebbitt Grill with views overlooking the White House.

The following morning, Don Rumsfeld provided opening remarks at breakfast outlining the Conference theme, "Implications of Actions and Inactions: A Citizen's Responsibility and a Nation's Signal to the World." Following breakfast, there was a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Steve Cambone, Director of the Rumsfeld Foundation, featuring three of the program's Advisers. Ambassador John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, spoke and responded to questions at the luncheon.

In the afternoon, Fellows participated in one of three breakout discussions facilitated by Advisers. New to this year's gathering, the smaller sessions provided Fellows an opportunity to discuss the Conference theme with their colleagues. Following the breakout sessions, participants convened for a plenary session where representatives of each group presented their key discussion points of interest. The Conference concluded with a reception and dinner with closing remarks by Don Rumsfeld.

"We are pleased to bring together this talented group of people who have an interest in our country, an interest in contributing, and the background and experience to do so in important ways," remarked Rumsfeld.

Since 2008, the Foundation has provided over $1.7 million dollars in graduate fellowships to Master's and Ph.D. candidates interested in public service.

The Rumsfeld Foundation, established in 2007, promotes leadership and public service at home and supports the growth of free political and free economic systems abroad. The foundation has four focus areas: supporting charities that benefit the men and women of the U.S. military and their families, graduate fellowships for U.S. students interested in public service, building linkages between young leaders from Central Asia and the United States, and global microfinance.
