Rumsfeld Foundation Receives Legacy Award

Washington, D.C. — On April 7th the Foundation’s Executive Director, Sarah Tonucci, was honored to accept a Legacy Award on behalf of the Rumsfeld Foundation at the annual Heroes Gala hosted by Luke's Wings. Celebrating 10 years in operation, Luke’s Wings presented Legacy Awards to five organizations and companies whose support they consider as critical to their efforts over the past decade. Other Legacy Award honorees included SRS Distribution, Inc., SAIC, E-9 Corporation and Delta Airlines. The evening's Hero Award went to U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Robert Fierro (Ret.) and his family.

As Luke’s Wings longest standing donor, Rumsfeld Foundation representatives were pleased to attend the Gala events alongside the evening’s other distinguished guests and honorees, including many U.S. service members and military families as well as other supporters of the organization. The Gala served as a special opportunity to celebrate the resilience, service and sacrifices of our nation’s military community.

Reflecting on the Foundation’s relationship with Luke’s Wings, Rumsfeld said, “Our Foundation has been proud to partner with Luke’s Wings since 2011 and we continue to be grateful to the Luke’s Wings team for your dedication in supporting our nation’s wounded heroes during such critical times. Over the past ten years, Luke’s Wings’ unique and focused efforts have provided thousands of flights to join wounded service members with their loved ones throughout their recoveries. Our thanks to Luke’s Wings for your steadfast commitment to the military community and, as always, our deepest appreciation to all who have worn the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces for their selfless service to our great country.”
