2018-19 Graduate Fellows Announced

The Rumsfeld Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of its 2018-19 Graduate Fellows. This year the Foundation awarded 17 Fellowships, totaling over $280,000, to promising scholars across the country with an interest in serving the nation through a career in public service or in policy-relevant fields. Entering its tenth academic year, the Graduate Fellowship Program now includes an impressive network of 130 current and former Fellows, as well as 25 distinguished Program Advisers located at 24 universities nationwide.

Nominated for their demonstrated leadership potential, moral character and academic and civic achievements, the 2018-19 Graduate Fellows represent a diverse collection of backgrounds and experiences. This year’s Fellows will be pursuing studies in fields from international relations and economics to education policy and intelligence, and are comprised of candidates for the following studies: 7 PhD’s, 9 Master’s and one Postdoctoral Fellow.

Some of the already impressive roles and accomplishments of the 2018-19 Fellows include: an American Public Philosophy Institute Graduate Fellow, a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, an FBI Honors Intern, a recipient of the Taylor Excellence in Writing Award, a Veteran Affairs Liaison for a Congressional Office, a Fulbright Scholar in Armenia, a Legislative Aide for a Hawaii State Representative, a Teaching Assistant at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Research Assistant at the Moynihan Institute for Global Affairs, a criminal justice Policy and Research Associate, an Analyst with the Government Accountability Office, a college newspaper editor, an Archer Center Fellow, a Richard Weaver Fellowship recipient, an intern at NASA, a Research Assistant in the Ryan Center for the Study of Free Institutions and Public Good, a recipient of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s “Tradecraft Enhancement Award,” authors of numerous publications and articles, and four U.S. military veterans, among other notable contributions and achievements.

Along with awarding these individuals Fellowship grants, the Foundation is pleased to support these service-oriented young leaders by hosting various events throughout the year for further network engagement, to include receptions, retreats, guest speakers and an annual fall conference in Washington, D.C.

One recently selected 2018-19 Fellow noted, "The financial assistance you provide will be a significant help regarding educational expenses and will allow me to concentrate more of my time on studying. I intend to work hard and in turn pay it forward both as a public leader and as a benefactor to scholarships like the Rumsfeld Foundation's for future Fellows like myself."
