FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, May 13th the Rumsfeld Foundation hosted members of its Graduate Fellowship Network in Annapolis, Maryland for its annual Spring Retreat comprised of networking opportunities, conversations on timely issues, leadership development and more.

Discussions focused on a range of topics including ethical leadership, career guidance and current U.S. national security challenges – touching on China, Russia, Ukraine and beyond. Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to hear from several accomplished public servants and to connect with other Fellows and alumni – as well as enjoy the historic setting of downtown Annapolis.

Programming commenced Saturday morning with remarks from Dr. Joe Thomas, Director of the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy, who spoke on leadership drawing from his extensive military service and role at the Academy. To follow, a panel featured four Fellowship alumni who reflected on their diverse career paths to offer advice for professional development as well as highlight resources available at their respective organizations.

After a sector-based networking lunch, participants heard from one of the program’s faculty Advisers for the final session of the day. A seasoned foreign policy expert, he provided insights on priorities of U.S. national security in light of great power competition – including some perspectives on the future of U.S. relations with China and Russia. To round out the retreat’s programming, attendees enjoyed a networking coffee before embarking on a guided tour of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Alongside the day’s formal discussions, participants were able to network with one another, explore the historic city and connect on areas of mutual interest and possibilities for collaboration over a closing dinner hosted in downtown Annapolis.

Since 2008, the Rumsfeld Foundation has provided a total of more than $3.9 million in Fellowship grants to over 200 graduate scholars who are dedicated to serving the nation.
